Escaping North Korea

by Gabriel Mizrahi on July 23, 2012

A recent TED talk about North Korea by Hyeonseo Lee caught our attention here at The North Korea Blog, and we wanted to share it with you — and to help Lee make it to TED 2013.

Lee’s talk is a deeply moving personal account about her escape from the DPRK to China and then to Seoul, where she has become an activist for fellow refugees. We love courageous spirits like her, and we applaud their bravery and honesty in confronting the regime and exposing the atrocities that plague so many people north of the 38th parallel. It’s a story that deserves to be told.

It is also a tale of daring and generosity, like Mike Kim’s Escaping North Korea, which we highly recommend.

Check out the talk below. Then take a quick moment to vote and leave a comment here. TED is reviewing emerging voices like Lee’s for the 2013 lineup. Let’s help her find her audience!
